Wendy Schmidt

I have had an affinity for art since a very earlyy age, but had not seriously pursued it until taking a week long calligraphy course in 1991. Since then, I've recieved instruction in watercolour, acrylic, sculpture and oil.

I have always been fortunate to be employed in work that is creative. I was a chef, a photographer and know I own my own gallery and frame shop.

I prefer the buttery consistency of oils (it reminds me of cake icing!) and the slower drying time allows me to play with the paint longer than other mediums.I like to paint in different styles, exploring abstract and still life. I like to paint things "close up", a style imported from my photography days. I also like to experiment, completing paintings that are monochromatic and others that have vibrant, surreal colours.
